WEEK 3 - CMC? Huh?
Okay what's up, gang? OMG! I just realized that we are about to step into Week 4. How time flies... 😥
So, in this post, I will be sharing about CMC which is stands for Computer Mediated Communication. On this week, Madam Azida asked us to choose between two articles and we have to make a short summary on what we have read. Let me just put the links here. Check this out, people!
CMC is a term used to communicate between two or more people who can interact with each other through different computer. However, computer is not used as much and often now. Around 90's, computers began to spread in community and came the term Computer Mediated Communication because people started to use websites, emails, and the internet at the time. Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) is any form of human communication gained or aided by computer technology. In addition, communication with computer media (CMC) can also be defined as communication transactions that occur through two or more related computers. Examples such as chat, instant messaging, SMS (Short Message Service), and email. In addition, this programme is created for long distance learning and teaching.
There are five types of CMC. They are:
a) Asynchronous CMC
- Communication is not synchronised
- messages are not exchanged or replied to immediately
- eg: emails, internet forums, most social media used this
b) Synchronous CMC
- Communication is rather synchronised
- messages are faster can be exchanged and replied to
- eg: internet chatrooms, video/audio conferencing
c) CMC and Long-distance learning
- allows teacher and learner to interact without being in the same location
- eg: Skype
d) Collaborative learning
- Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning
- can help enhance peer interactions and group works
- eg: Google Docs, Google Drive
e) Authentic Communication
- CMC offers learners easy access and opportunity to communicate with other learners
Okay, that is all I can share as for now. Till I write again! Adios
